Child Therapy
~ Helping Children Express, Understand, and Manage Their Emotions ~
Children (Ages 7+)
Children often experience big emotions but don't always have the words to explain what they're thinking or feeling. While adults typically process experiences through conversation, children naturally communicate through play, creativity, and imagination. By meeting children where they are developmentally, therapy can become a safe and engaging space for healing, growth, and learning.
I incorporate play-based and expressive therapy techniques into sessions to help children explore emotions, process difficult experiences, build healthy coping skills, and strengthen self-confidence. Through activities such as games, art, storytelling, creative play, and other developmentally appropriate interventions, children can express themselves in ways that feel natural and comfortable.
With extensive training in play therapy, I thoughtfully integrate these techniques alongside evidence-based practices to meet each child's individual needs and treatment goals. Every session is tailored to the child's age, strengths, personality, and developmental level while fostering a strong therapeutic relationship built on trust and safety.
Children may benefit from therapy if they are experiencing:
- Anxiety or excessive worry
- Difficulty managing emotions
- ADHD or attention concerns
- Behavioral challenges
- Low self-esteem
- Family changes, such as divorce or separation
- Grief and loss
- Trauma or stressful life experiences
- Social or friendship difficulties
- School-related concerns
- Autism spectrum-related challenges
- Difficulty adjusting to life transitions
My goal is to help children better understand their emotions, develop confidence in themselves, strengthen problem-solving skills, and build healthy coping strategies they can use at home, at school, and in everyday life.
Parent Collaboration
Parents play an important role in a child's therapeutic progress. While therapy provides children with a safe and confidential space to express themselves, I believe meaningful change happens when caregivers are supported as well.
Throughout treatment, I collaborate with parents by providing updates, discussing progress, offering practical strategies that can be used at home, and answering questions about their child's emotional and behavioral development. Together, we work as a team to support your child's growth while respecting the therapeutic relationship and your child's need for privacy during sessions.
Therapy Through Play
A child may look like they're simply playing a game or creating artwork, but each activity is selected with purpose. Play provides opportunities to practice coping with disappointment, improve emotional regulation, strengthen communication, increase frustration tolerance, build confidence, and develop problem-solving skills—all within the safety of a trusting therapeutic relationship.
